Colorado

 

I won’t be on here for a bit (not that many will notice!), because we are heading to Colorado.  Just.  For.  Grins.  The above photo was taken several years ago when we drove cross country to Nevada.  We were spinning through the Rocky Mountains in November and snow was on the ground from West Virginia all the way to Nevada.  I wasn’t thrilled about going cross country BUT with a deal that we wouldn’t drive 10 hours a day AND we would stop often and walk AND we would stop at every state line visitor center….I agreed.  The eastern side of the country was more boring to be because I’d seen it already many, many times.  But Kansas on I was in love!  Driving is the way to go for sure as far as sight-seeing, but for efficiency’s sake we are flying this time and seeing whatever we please.  I’ll be back.

I confess feeling hopeless today.  Hopeless for our planet and for its people.  Recently, I heard a scientist on NPR talk about climate change and how we are past the point of no return.  “Get used to doom,” he said.  I have been disheartened ever since.  How does one “get used to doom?”  I’m no good at that, being the eternal optimist that I am.  So this morning I feel conflicted and hopeless.

Friendship

 

I have a friend.  A friend who challenges me while being nonjudgmental.  Her critiques are honest yet delivered in kindness.

 

 

We’ve become estranged of late due to Life challenges on her part and mine.  She is on my mind constantly.  I miss her, yet currently our relationship is strained.  The funny part is that I really don’t know why.

 

 

She would say that’s a cop-out and would grill me down to get at the root…but the last time we tried that it didn’t go very well.

 

 

We will remain friends – it’s just that our “new normal” hasn’t yet been discovered.  Time.  As all good things of value, it will take time.

Japanese Garden

The next few days I’ll be working side-by-side with my fellow Master Gardeners at the Annual Master Gardeners Plant Sale.  Every year we offer plants of every type – trees, shrubs, herbs, vegetables, annuals, perennials, native plants, SEEDS, everything!  The sale lasts 5 days at the New Hanover County (North Carolina) Arboretum.  Admittance is FREE; parking is a beast.  BUT you’ll find the best plants EVER there.  I cannot contain my enthusiasm for I buy enough to keep the place in business.

When I’m not at the plant sale I’m walking the various gardens there.  There’s a Native Plant Garden, a Rose Garden, various woodland gardens, a labyrinth, a Children’s Garden and, my favorite and the oldest part of the garden, the Japanese Garden.

Make it a great day and go plant something!
